Warsaw, Feb. 15, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Poland's Institute of National Remembrance has confirmed reports that Father Mieczyslaw Malinski, a longtime friend of the late Pope John Paul II, did indeed collaborate with the Communist secret service. Earlier this week the radio station RMF-FM had reported that Father Malinski, who became acquainted with the future Pope in 1940 and joined him in the underground seminary of the Krakow archdiocese during World War II, had later provided secret police with reports on both then-Cardinal Wojtyla and Warsaw's Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski. Father Malinski himself became a prominent journalist associated with critics of the Communist regime.
